The Operating Room CST provides direct patient care at the surgical field. This individual assists the physician, anesthesiologis! t and other team members during the surgical procedure. The CST is responsible for equipment, room preparation, maintaining and assuring sterile technique and proper patient positioning under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Graduate from accredited Certified Surgical Technologist program. (Unless grandfathered as an ORT before 1995.)
Current Certification as Surgical Technologist within one year of employment.
Minimum of one year experience in hospital or related health care setting, including clinical educational experience.
High emotional tolerance for various personalities.
Working Conditions:This position requires employee to regularly:
1. Be at risk for occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials,
2. Be able to work holidays, weekends, days evenings, and night hours, based upon department needs. Must be able to work man! datory overtime or hours significantly beyond the normal work ! day/week.
Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment:
This position requires critical thinking skills and math skills. Carrying, pushing, pulling of heavy equipment. Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push/pull 200 pounds.
Ability to stand in one place for long periods.
Extreme attention to detail and ability to organize and anticipate needs of surgeon and staff.
Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve equipment and technical equipment.
Ability to work with many different kinds of drills, saws, video monitors, lasers and other types of equipment commonly found in an operating room.
Ability to be discrete and protect the integrity of confidential information.
Additional Information
Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
