Administers prescribed medications (including IV push medications and hanging blood and/or plasma) and continually assesses post-op pain with medication management per guidelines of anesthesi! a.
Prepares equipment and supplies and assists physician during treatments and examinations of post-op patients. Does routine dressing reinforcements.
Observes post-op patients, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies attending physician and/or anesthesiologist of patient’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant post-op incidents.
Monitors temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient.
Prepares PACU to receive patients on a daily basis. Maintains equipment readiness. Orders, inventories, and puts away supplies. Maintains patient log book, emergency equipment and supplies including medication stock. Counts and maintains narcotic log and count.
Receives and assesses patient upon arrival to PACU and observes patient’s recovery period from both anesthesia and surgical aspects, providing direct bedside nursing care! .
May make appropriate interventions per established ! protocol in life threatening situations until physician is available.
Assists with maintaining safe, clean, and comfortable surgical environment.
Maintains confidentiality. Performs duties with honesty, fairness, ethics, and good corporate citizenship to ensure corporate compliance.
Performs other duties as required.
EXPERIENCE:
Critical care experience preferred
OR, an equivalent level of education and experience
EDUCATION:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing; ASN or BSN
LICENSE:
Indiana RN license
HCP-BLS certification required
ACLS certification required
SKILLS:
Use common sense and special medical skills to care for the sick or handicapped.
Understand technical information from a variety of sources.
Use eyes, hands, and fingers with skill.
Work fast and efficiently in an emergency.
Communicate with! people when they are sick, handicapped, or nervous.
Change from one duty to another frequently.
Follow instructions exactly.
Record information completely and accurately.
