Job Summary : This is a full time position as a Certified Registered Nurse anesthetist (CRNA) for OR and outpatient surgery areas at the Indianapolis Roudebush VAMC. The incumbent is under the supervision of a staff Anesthesiologist, and the Surgical Service. For Outpatient the incumbent will provide anesthetic assistance to the surgeon and administer and monitor patients in an outpatient/ambulatory care setting as needed. For Inpatient patient services the incumbent will perform Pre and Post surgery anesthesia evaluation as needed.

Tour of Duty : Monday - Fridays 7am-3:30pm, NO CALL , No weekends, No Holidays, Minimal Overtime.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship

Full unrestricted State Registered Nurse Licensure required.

Must pass pre-employment examination.

Designated and/or Random Drug Testing required.

Background and/or Security Investigation required.

English Language Proficiency required.

DUTIES:
This full time Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will be qualified to administer all modalities of anesthesia by inhalation, intravenous technique, spinal epidurals, caudal, Bier blocks, infiltrations, and any required anesthesia of equal complexity. The incumbent is under the supervision of a staff Anesthesiologist, and the Surgical Service. For Outpatient the incumbent will provide anesthetic assistance to the surgeon administration and will monitor patients in an outpatient/ambulatory care setting as needed. For Inpatient patient services the incumbent will perform Pre and Post surgery anesthesia evaluation as needed. Perform General anesthesia including endotracheal intubation invasive monitoring (arterial line, pulmonary artery catheter). Perform regional anesthesia, including general anesthesia IV sedation and various regional blocks such as, spinal blocks, lumbar, epidural, Bier, axillary, ankle, caudal, interscalene, transtracheal, field, Supraclavicular, and Brachial plexus blocks. Perform infiltration and digital nerve blocks. Perform epidural blood patch for post spinal headache. Provide monitored anesthesia care and IV sedation surgical procedures. Resuscitation of critically ill patients, and will be required to respond to rapid response team codes. Perform therapeutic nerve block for pain control. CRNA is responsible for the proper storage, accountability, usage and disposal of pharmacy products used in their daily operations. The incumbent is responsible for accomplishing the necessary document/administrative action needed in the daily performance of their duties. Employment will also include anesthetics administered in ancillary departments such as the Cardiac Cath lab, GI lab, and periodic assistance with the chronic pain service. Incumbent functions as member of a multi-disciplinary team.

The candidate ensures completion of all applicable clinical reminders and performance measures.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Hold a BSN from a NLNAC or CCNE accredited school of nursing.
  • Current, unrestricted State licensure as RN.
  • A graduate of school of anesthesia approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • The candidate will typically have had progressively responsible experience in the administration of anesthesia.
  • The incumbent will have successfully completed the certification examination administered by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetist or its predecessor and be currently Board Certified as CRNA.
  • ACLS preferred
