Technologist-Surgical First Assistant

Description: IU Health Arnett is in need of Technologist-Surgical First Assistant right now, this vacancy will be ordered in Indiana. More details about this vacancy opportunity please give attention to these descriptions. This position exists to provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. The incumbent ensures the presence and proper arrangement of equipment and supplies in the operating room prior to each operation and to maintain readiness for emergency procedures at all times. The incumbent first assists the surgeon during the operation as allowed by professional and legal standards. The surgical technologists clean the operating room after the operation, ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, and used material and restocking the rooms and equipment. The incumbent is a member of the surgical team and works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and registered nurses. Direct patient care is given under the direction of the RN.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Requires certification as a Certified First Assistant by the NBSTSA.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to pati ent care policies.
Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology Association and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
Requires certification as a Certified First Assistant by the NBSTSA, National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA), or American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA).
Current BLS Certification.
Knowledge of various surgical and obstetrical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon.
Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
Knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
Knowledge of care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patients served.
Ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within limited time for completion.
Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
Knowledge of principles of infection control.
Ability to perform physically demanding; repetitious movements.
Ability to read and perform basic math.
Ability to attend to details.
