The advance practic! e nurse (APN) is a licensed registered nurse who has graduate preparation (a master's or doctorate) in nursing as a CNS, CNM, CRNA or NP. The APN is a clinical expert in theory-based and/or research-based nursing practice within a specialty area and who does the following: Uses appropriate critical thinking skills to make independent decisions, commensurate with the autonomy, authority, and responsibility of the APN. Integrates knowledge of disease, medical treatments, and nursing needs, focusing on illness and wellness experiences (symptoms, functional problems, risk behaviors, and capability) that require nursing interventions to prevent, maintain, or alleviate. Designs, implements, and evaluates population-based programs of care by integrating nursing interventions and medical treatments, as appropriate, to enhance patient outcomes cost-effectively. Serves as a leader/consultant/mentor/change agent in advancing the practice of nursing to achieve quality, cost-effective p! atient outcomes within and across specialty populations. Leads! multidisciplinary groups in designing and implementing solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues across the continuum of care. BMHRequires knowledge of the behaviors, developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, life cycle changes, culture, and comfort and care appropriate to the population served. Populations served by the department are identified in the department's scope of service. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Must have experience in Obstetrics, will accept a NP in position as well
Requires licensure is considered minimal competence unless an event of error occurs. Must have the ability to work in a standing position and do frequent walking. Must have the ability to physically transport mannequins, defibrillators or simulators up to 40 pounds. Must demonstrate the analytical ability to evaluate problem situations in depth, arrive at appropriate conclusions and intervene in an acceptable manner. Must have the ability ! to display independent judgment skills and discretion. Must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations. Must have the ability to manage several simultaneous assignments and prioritize appropriately based on department needs. Must have the ability to exhibit scholarly writing skills including the use of appropriate grammar, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, staff and physicians. Must have the ability to respond immediately, with unimpeded auditory perception, to verbal/vocal instructions, electronic alarms and auscultated sounds. Must have the ability to achieve outcomes with respect to the coordination of staff educational programming, patient education/discharge planning resources and supervising, directing and evaluating the staff education. Must have the ability to look at a VDT for a sustained period of time. Must have the ability to be exposed to infectious diseases, C! ancer radiation, and chemotherapeutic agents that require following est! ablished protocols and precautionary measures Must have the ability to manipulate a keyboard in order to produce copy. Must have the ability to learn and proficiently perform computer applications related to department operations.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a master?s degree in nursing required.
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Indiana, or eligible for Indiana licensure.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider CPR preferred or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Certification at point of hire or must obtain AHA Health Care Provider CPR within 1st week of orientation prior to patient care required.
Current qualifications to practice as an advance practice nurse in the state of Indiana.
Functions within the legal boundaries of their advanced practice area and shall have and utilize knowledge of the statutes and rules governing their advanced practice areas, including the follo! wing: state and federal drug laws and regulations, state and federal confidentiality laws and regulations as well as state and federal medical records access laws.
Recognizes the limits of individual knowledge and experience, and consult with or refer clients to other health care providers as appropriate.
Retains professional accountability for any delegated intervention, and delegate interventions only as authorized by the state of Indiana. Demonstrates expertise in the practice or nursing.
Maintains current knowledge and skills in their specialty area.
Successful completion of certification within 1 year of employment.
Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills and evidence of ability to function in a consultative and educational role. Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills, and evidence of ability to function in a consultative/educational and research role.
Seeks additional experience to maintain and expand areas of advanced nursing prac! tice expertise.
Participates in professional and specialty nursing ! organizations.
For CNS opening in Med/Surg Geriontology and Critical Care divisions, must meet RN specific requirements at minimal.
Demonstrated expertise in the practice of nursing validated by 3-5 years of recent oncology experience.
Requires effective communication skills, oral and written.
Requires basic computer literacy or the willingness to learn.
