Description: Indiana University Health is currently interviewing SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST SKILLED right now, this occupation will be presented in Indiana. For complete informations about this occupation opportunity please read the description below. This position exists to provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. The incumbent ensures the presence and proper arrangem! ent of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room prior to each operation. The incumbent assists the surgeon during the operation as allowed by professional and legal standards. The surgical technologists clean the operating room after the operation ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, and used material. The incumbent is a member of the surgical team and works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Requires eligibility for certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBTSA.
Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
Requires maintaining Basic Life Support Certification.
Requires surgical technologists certification within six months of employment for those surgical technologists hired after July 1; 1999.
Must maintain current certification to remain in the job.
Requir! es knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to antici! pate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.
Requires excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
Unit level activities-participation on unit based committees, participates in unit projects, and assists coordinators with tasks.
Assists with presentation of unit in-service and/or a presentation for the AST class.
Learn about laser safety, care and handling with the eventual outcome of becoming a laser certified technician at a competent level.
Requires 0-3 years or more experience.
