This position exists to provide service and support before, during, and after surgic! al procedures. The incumbent ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room prior to each operation. The incumbent assists the surgeon during the operation as allowed by professional and legal standards. The surgical technologists clean the operating room after the operation ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, and used material. The incumbent is a member of the surgical team and works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Requires surgical technologists certification within six months of employment for those surgical technologists hired after July 1; 1999.
Must maintain current certification to remain in the job.
Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon.
Requires excellent ! interpersonal/communication skills.
Requires knowledge of ! name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
Requires eligibility for certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBTSA.
Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
Requires maintaining Basic Life Support Certification.
