Department Marketing Statement
Surgery at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital offers the opportunity to participate in the full scope of general surgery with the exception of open heart. The medical surgical team is comprised of many dedicated staff members including a circulator, a scrub nurse/technologist, an anesthesiologist, a team care specialist, nurses and doctors. Associates in our surgery departments are committed to the highest quality surgical care and service for patients and their family.
Responsibilities
Manages the provision of nursing care for the surgical patient in accordance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act and established policies, procedures and protocols of the St.Vincent Indianapolis Regional Hospitals.Assesses the patient in a systematic and organized manner.
Formulates nursing diagnoses and develops plan of care. Initiates nursing actions and implements strategies to maximize patient outcomes. Delegates, supervises and/or collaborates with other members of the health care team in the delivery of safe and effective nursing care. Evaluates status of interventions and patient goals for the purpose of reassessment, revision of plan of care and discharge planning.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/LICENSURE
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing and current Indiana license as an RN required. BLS Healthcare Provider required, CNOR, ACLS preferred. PALS required within 1 year of hire to position on pediatric team.
EXPERIENCE
Surgery experience required. General, GYN, Urology, Pediatric, and Robotic specialty experience preferred.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, the ability take appropriate action and to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
WORK SCHEDULE
Full time, 40 hours per week, 11 am - 7:20 pm. Most of orientation will be on 8-hr day shifts
(7 am - 3:30 pm). On-call rotation required. Minimal weekend/holiday coverage.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
May include frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, prolonged period of walking, and lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 pounds (lifting of patient may include assistance from team member or lift devices). Ability to operate therapeutic equipment.
