DUTIES:
The primary function of this position is to provide anethesia sercie within the Special Care Flight. The purpose of this position it to assist anesthesiology personnel by settingup the anesthesia equipment and supplies at each anesthesia station and to respond to anethesiology emergencies during surgery; such as immediate replacement of malfunctioning equipment or obtaining additional medical supplies or equipment.

  • Responsible for the upkeep of the preoperative anesthesiology portion of the nine main operating rooms, tow labor and delivery units, a cardiac catheterization unit, radiology, special procedures room, and magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Respond to the needs of anesthesiologist/anesthetists during surgery such as with malfunctioning equipment.
  • Provides assistance in assembling transducer systems, as needed, for individual procedures.
  • Responds to Â"Code BlueÂ" cardiac arrest or other emergency situations at all anesthesia locations.
  • Assists anesthesiologists in the Anesthesia Holding Area or Pain Management Clinic, if needed.
  • Assists, under the direction of the Lead Anesthesiology Technician, in the orientation and training of newly arrived anesthesia personnel on the proper set-up and use of all equipment.
  • Cleans and performs routine operator maintenance on all anesthesia equipment.
  • Perform monthly monitoring of anesthesia agent leaks, utilizing multi-gas and/ or nitrous oxide sample tubes.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify for this position, you must have one of the following:

Have at least 1 year of specialized experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal Service (or similar in other pay systems). This experience includes: Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients.

OR

Have completed a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in medical or health technician related fields. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS/ UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS ARE ACCEPTED AT THIS PHASE OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS.

OR

Have a combination of experience and education; i.e., some specialized experience as described in A, and some of the education as described in B. To compute the percentage, first determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required. Then, determine your education as a percentage of the education required. Combine the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100 percent. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF YOUR TRANSCRIPTS/UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS ARE ACCEPTED AT THIS PHASE OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

Knowledge of and skill in operating medical equipment, such as: cardiac monitors, hemodynamics monitors, and the like, so as to recognize and correct equipment malfunctions.

Knowledge of standardized patient care for patients being anesthetized.

Knowledge of and skill in recognizing and properly using anesthesia equipment, such as: anesthesia machines, pulse oximeters, invasive and non-invasive hemodynamics monitors, SARA monitors, thermoregulators, and humidifiers.

Knowledge and skill in facilitating cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assisting providers during such emergency procedures. CPR certification is required, with continuing recertification mandatory.

Ability to understand standard medical terminology and basic anatomy for the human body, as it pertains to operating room nursing care.

Knowledge of aseptic technique and principles of infection control.

Knowledge of normal and abnormal results to report obvious abnormalities during procedures.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT/OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS :
CPR certification is required. You must submit proof of certification prior to job announcement closing .

Incumbent is required to change into proper surgical attire to perform duties within the operating room and Labor and Delivery setting. Attire includes surgical scrubs, shoe covers, surgical cap, and mask.

While in operating room sterile area, personnel must wear mask at all times.

Prescribed limitation exist for hairstyle, jewelry, and nail fashions in these settings.
